Freddie K., known locally as The Polka King, is a legend in Door County - a dancing, laughing character who loved polka music, his tractor and of course, beer. You always knew when Freddie was enjoying a cold one since most days he drove his tractor to the tavern.

Old Allen Bradley, the Timber Chap, AKA “The Giant of Gills Rock”, was the first settler of Gills Rock. He was indeed a legendary strong man, measuring more than 4 feet around the chest with hands as broad as shovels. He could easily chop seven cords of maple in a day. He once saved a moored boat in the bay, pulling it and the 1000 lb anchor to Fish Creek.
